Theft of computers and audio visual equipment from schools and colleges has reached epidemic proportions. They’re public buildings and often an easy target but moves are afoot to make thieves lives more difficult. Hitachi models sold to educational establishments will now sport bright orange cases.  As well as making stolen products easy to identify it will flag up an alert if anyone tries to sell them on ebay and organisers of car boot sales are being urged to notify the boys in blue. Hitachi models also have extra security measures that will render stolen equipment virtually useless. If a projector is moved from its mount and disconnected from the power it can only be switched on again by entering a code and the display can be configured with the name of the owner or organisation, which can only be changed by entering the appropriate security code.
