Kodak has launched the Easyshare P712 7.1MP digital camera with an auto-focus system featuring what the company boasts is a "best-in-class click-to-capture rate".

The camera features a 2.5-inch high-resolution LCD along with an electronic viewfinder, 12X optical zoom and a Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon lens with a maximum aperture of f2.8 at the wide end, reducing to f3.7 at the telephoto end. Optical image stabilisation is built into the camera, providing a two-stop advantage over non-image stabilised systems for better capturing subjects in low light for both stills and video. It also minimises handheld camera shake at longer focal lengths.

You can also select pictures for emailing or printing with a touch of the "Share" button, and even mark them as favourites for automatic uploading when used in conjunction with the included Kodak Easyshare Software version 6. And you can record TV-quality, 30 frames-per-second VGA video with sound (MPEG4) with the turn of a dial, along with editing your video on the go.

The P712 camera will be available in the UK from June 2006, priced around £350.
