Another day, another survey – this time from ViewSonic (who make screens) – with the finding that HD-ready TV is the current "must have" technology, viewed by many as a status symbol.
The research claims that HD-ready TVs are the "most wanted" technology item by UK consumers, significantly more desirable than iPods, camcorders or laptops. In fact, they’ve become something to impress the neighbours with, equalling luxury city-breaks as the most covetable purchase, putting designer labels, jewellery and even fine-art in the shade.
Surprisingly, it’s not the urban 20-somethings leading the tech revolution in the UK – the over 55s are most likely to have made the jump to HD, with 10 per cent already owning one. That age group is also the most knowledgeable, with the least HD-savvy being 16-24 year olds. And if you’re an over 55 in the south-west, you’ll be well up for it – that’s the area where enthusiasm is strongest.
If that all sounds fairly positive, one stat makes grim reading – in the UK, over 51% of the population say they "find it difficult to keep up with the latest technology trends and innovations in the home". Here’s a simple solution – buy a PC and check Tech Digest everyday. You’ll never miss a thing.
