HD DVD and Bly-ray have certainly made their mark at this year’s Computex event – HD DVD featuring in two new notebooks shown off this week by Asus.

The two notebooks come in at 17 inches and 15.4 inches respectively. As well as the next generation drive, the 17-inch model, known as the W2J, features an integrated analogue and digital TV tuner and a built-in sub-woofer to really blast out that sound. The notebook’s based on Intel’s Centrino Duo platform, and will ship with a range of Core Duo CPU options, Intel’s 945PM chipset and 802.11a/b/g Wi-Fi adaptor. It also features the ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 with 256MB of GDDR 3 for graphics, up to 2GB of memory, and up to 120GB of storage, plus Bluetooth 2.0, a Trusted Platform Module and HDMI connectivity.

Apart from the smaller 15.4-inch screen, the spec on the W1J is pretty much the same. No news on release dates or price on these models, but I imagine the latter part of this year is a good bet for a UK release.
