Ok, spending all day playing with gadgets and technology might not be the most eco-friendly way of living your life, but you can still do your bit if you put your mind to it – one example is using Maplin Electronics’ new ‘Scotty’ personal solar charger.

The lightweight Scotty charger can be clipped on to clothing or to a rucksack, so that you can solar charge your iPod or digital camera whilst on the move. A full charge from Scotty will provide enough energy for one hour’s mobile phone talk time or 60 hours standby – it can even power your sat-nav.

Larger solar kits are also available to power larger technology, such as a laptop or portable TV.

The Scotty solar charger costs around £35, with the larger solar panel kits starting from around £70.
