If you are anything like the techno-twiddlers at Propellerhead you will be forever opening Windows XP Display Properties, to tweak settings, mess around with screensavers and change the appearance of the Windows desktop. If so you’ll know that to get to it you have to open Control Panel and click on the Display icon or right-click on the desktop and select Properties. There’s a much better way and you can open Display Properties with a single click on a Quick Launch icon and here is how it’s done. Right-click on the desktop and select New > Shortcut. In the ‘Type the location o the item box’ enter (or copy and paste) the following command:

rundll32.exe shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL desk.cpl

Click Next, give the new shortcut a name then OK. Now you can drag and drop the shortcut onto the Quick Launch toolbar and you are ready to give it a road test. If you like that little tweak then why not have a look at the many other Windows tips on the BootLog website at http://www.rickmaybury.com
