Sony has announced two new six megapixel digital cameras to its W-series in the form of the DSC-W30 and DSC-W50.

Rather like the the F-series cameras announced by Fuji, they are equipped with technology (in this case ‘anti-blur’) to cope with low light, hand shakes or fast-moving objects. Both models also feature Sony’s Clear RAW imaging technology, which can produce low noise images up to ISO 1000.

The W30 has a 2-inch LCD screen and the W50 a larger 2.5-inch LCD screen, but the specs on the two don’t differ much from that. Both have 3x Optical Zoom, up to 13x Smart Zoom, 6x Precision Digital Zoom, 32MB of internal memory, which can be boosted to 2GB via Memory Stick and battery life that claims up to 400 shots on a single charge. Both models also seem well set for beginners too, with seven scene selection modes and if you’re not sure which is the best for your situation, a function guide will display an accompanying explanation of the scene.

The Cyber-shot W30 and W50 will be available from March 2006. No prices available as yet.
