AOL offers movies on demand

With Sky’s free movie download service appealing to its subscribers (70,000 downloads in the first three weeks apparently), AOL have obviously decided it’s a potential winner and launched its own video on demand service

AOL’s online movie rental service, which launches today in conjunction with DVD rental company LOVEFiLM, isn’t just limited to AOL customers, anyone can take advantage of it. Each film title will cost £2.99 and you can view it for up to 24 hours. Around 100 films are available at launch.

Waiting for a large download with your 1MB connection and watching a movie on your PC screen might not appeal right now, but with NTL testing "on demand" movies through a 100MB connection, it could be a way for AOL to get a foot in the door of what will be a huge market in the future.
