ION USB Turntable

Usb_turntableAs technology marches onwards through my house I have long forsaken the ability to play my record collection as I no longer have a turntable, nor any means to play one even if I did, due the computer taking on the weight of entertainment functions. ION's USB turntable seems like a good idea simply for providing a good excuse to dust off those old 45s even though I don't particulary go for the idea of turning them into MP3s where the magical crackle and hiss of vinyl would simply be unwelcome rather than charming. The USB turntable does come with Audacity to enable you to digitise your record collection if you so desire and the unit is plug-and-play so there won't any need to fiddle about with drivers either. It is currently going for $140 (around £80) in the States.

Thats a great idea, just because technology keeps moving does not mean some of us still do not want to watch vhs videos we have or in this case records. New tech meets old tech...cool.

the ion turntable with usb cable is a piece of junk. Anyone can email me to ask why. It sounds HORRIBLE. This is a £15 piece of equipment dressed up as something special because it has a usb facility. You will be better off with a pin attached to a pie tin with a clothes peg for sound quality. Do NOT buy this heap of junk. Unless you get one second hand and replace the cartridge. While there is no guarantee that the cartridge is the weak link in this chain of inadequacy, there is a pretty good chance. Maybe you could find an employee of ion to talk off the record? info@spencertheartist.com

Firstly, I doubt you will find a Ion USB Turntable for £15 anywhere in the UK, at least at this time of writing. China maybe, but it wont be branded Ion and I can imagine the sound quality being a whole lot worse.

Quite simply they take the ease out of transfering vinyl to mp3 rather than having to couple up a hi-fi system through an old soundcard like we used to have to. So are they worth the money, I certainly think so anyway, as many others would.

I have studied these products online and Ion are currently the most popular USB Turntable followed by Numark. Going off the figures I have in front of me, the Ion USB Turntable is about 5-6 times more searched for than Numark. Dont ask me how I know, I just know.

Thats my 2 cents worth anyway, make you own minds up!
