Ok, so we might not yet have the Apple/Motorola iTunes phone yet, but the other most talked about music playing handset – the Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman – is set to land in the UK on Friday August 12th. Sony Ericsson is publicising its launch by enlisting old Jay Kay from Jamiroquai to perform at a private gig on the eve of the launch.

Presumably when it is all finished the attendees will then dash out to the Orange store on Oxford Street which is staying open on Friday night so it can be first to sell the handset at midnight. Orange is predicting huge demand for the phone. Maybe, but we reckon there will be a longer queue that night at our local Kebaberie.

Nevertheless the phone certainly looks the part, comes stacked with music and other entertainment facilities and has an astonishing music battery life of thirty hours if you stick with the Atrac files. Its only downer is that its 512MB Memory Stick just isn’t enough storage.
