One of the big weaknesses with the i-mode mobile platform (see here for more), which O2 intends to launch later this year, is that it is a bit short on cutting edge phones. NEC hopes to change all that by introducing the N600i, the first 3G i-mode phone for Europe. Already signed up by Greek network Cosmote, and you can bet it is on O2’s radar too, the N600i is a compact (94.4mm x 47.5mm x 24.5mm, 113g, 90CC) clamshell- video-phone with a 1.3M pixel-integrated-camera.

The N600i also features a 2 inch 65K QVGA main LCD, capable of displaying both high-resolution pictures but also MPEG4 movies. It also has 72 tone polyphonic ringtones, is compatible with JAVA Applications and a connectivity suite that includes Bluetooth and USB. There’s 20MB embedded memory and a Trans-Flash memory card slot.
