Seagate has announced that it expects to release the new drive in the first quarter of next year. The drive works by being the first to use perpendicular recording technology. Apparently it works by standing the magnetic fields that represent data bits upright, instead of flat as with normal hard drives. All a little above my head, but it’s nice to know that we can soon expect to see more hard disk space in our laptops, media players and other portable gadgets.
