NTL phone hacker let off

An angry cable customer who hacked into NTL’s phone helpline has been cleared by Teeside magistrates. Ashley Gibbins, 26, changed the telephone helpline message after being kept on hold for more than an hour to order broadband.

"We don’t give a f*** about you, basically, and we’re not going to handle any of your complaints," went the new message. "Just f*** off and leave us alone. Get a life," he concluded, somewhat matter of factly. Well we’ve all been there, including the magistrates apparently, who said the message didn’t reach the ‘grossly offensive’ standard necessary for prosecution.

What’s amazing is that the message stayed on there for two hours before anyone at NTL noticed! Wonder if the 26 year old taxi driver is considering retraining as a call centre operator? Sounds like he’d be perfect.
