Inspired by the success of iTunes, the BBC is set to launch a download system for its most popular shows. The interactive Media Player or iMP will be based on peer-to-peer technology and offer downloadable versions of many of the most popular TV shows for a week after airing. Programmes such as EastEnders, Holby City and Top Gear plus around 300 radio programmes will be available to download by any UK TV license payer and the system will incorporate its own Digital Rights Management system. The iMP download service will begin its trial stage in September.
