Until now, Sony has been pretty quiet on the subject of
Playstation Portable sales figures fuelling speculation that many retailers
simply weren’t able to shift the number of units that they had expected to.
However Sony has recently stated that 500,000 units were sold in the 48 hours
of trading, but the 1 million units earmarked for the US still haven’t been
bought up. This can only be good news for European would-be PSP owners, whose
fears of an international shortage were raised by the buying frenzy surrounding
the US launch.
As for the remaining five days in the first week of
sales, Sony is still giving us the silent treatment but surely that can only
imply that they weren’t quite as great as anticipated…
