The latest addition to the Magellan fold is the RoadMate 300, a standalone handheld GPS device that’s designed to be a bit more affordable than the company’s more top spec RoadMate 700 unit. Whereas the 700 relied on hard disk memory to store very detailed maps, the 300 only holds the major road and motorways, and provides customised detailed maps of countries on pre-loaded Secure Digital memory cards. The colour touchscreen gives you easy access to the software and there’s turn by turn text and voice navigation to guide your way. It costs £499 and is available this month.
