Sony has announced that the PS3 will use Blu-Ray discs. These are intended to be the successor to DVD, holding five times as much data. Blu-Ray players are specified to play DVD discs, so the PS3 should theoretically be able to play high-definition Blue-Ray movies, DVDs and of course Blu-Ray and DVD-authored games (such as PS2 games).
