Opera adds voice and maybe Windows phones too

The Guardian reports that Opera has announced it is to add voice recognition to its free web-browser software later this year, using IBM’s ViaVoice technology.

The Norwegian software firm says the functionality, which will not be in the next release, could be used to navigate, request information and fill in online forms. It will be added first to desktop computer versions, but will be incorporated into Opera’s software for mobile phones and palmtop computers.

The company is also rumoured to being close to delivering its acclaimed mobile Opera browser fro microsoft Windows Mobile phones like the XDA II and the Orange SPV E-200.

One of our spies claims he is testing a beta version of the browser which has been a huge hit with the owners of Symbian phones like the Nokia 6600 and Sony Ericsson P900.
