Seiko Epson's Flying Robot

We’ve had robots that can play football, clean your house and even keep an eye on the family silver. Now the wacky guys over at the crazy but excellent www.boingboing.net are telling us about a robot that can fly.

Demonstrated at last week’s International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo (well, where else) the ‘mîcro Flying Robot’ prototype weighs just 8.9g and works off a 3.5V DC power supply.

Features include two contra-rotating propellers powered by four ultrasonic motors, two CPUs, a Bluetooth module; a a gyro-sensor, an accelerometer and an image sensor. Apparently, Epson engineers’ goal is to build a robot that can capture images in mid-air.

  • It’s about time we started seeing some air based robotics. I am very interested in a space explorations nano machine that you can control from earth to space and back…I am even more interested in nano self replication engines that will reproduce itself as SMART CAM utilizing Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to communicate at the micro level, in a nueral like network. I believe we need to focus more in atomic and subatomic designs and solutions instead of aero technologies for a more optimum over all solution and design. I believe it should be possible to implement nano based camaras that self replicate like Carbon NanoTube Gears. We should be able to control binding substances better than Benzyne Reaction known in C60 we can work with the EM or Binding capabilities at the atomic level by controlling the binding forces of Gluons and PIONS. How?….no idea but my guess would be to perhaps cancel off wavelengths by anit-equavalents….The fabric of space and time can be manipulated instead of using wastes of energy, and we should look into nullifying gravity and creating our own artificial gravity field and null our weight. There has been studies done that show at a very small level that its possible. The decaying of Element 115 releasing anti-matter is one way of studying subatomic structures instead of colliding them together and smashing them. I think there are better solutions and we are all focusing on just the one everyone seems to be working on. Whatever happened to originality and pioneering…? We can achieve alot by looking over the shoulders of giants but what about looking at the stuff no one else is looking….like the base floor of where these giants stand…if we understand things at its most basic foundation then we can achieve alot more than what we think.

  • can u sow how it the robot to fly?
what the application they can apply in the indutry?
what the effect for the economics?
    advantages and disadvatages is what?

  • Well you see I am quiet liek Ales, I am looking to buy one of these pieces of robotics also. Please send me an email if that is an possibility.

  • request.
Hy, my name is Ales, I am from Slovenia-Europe.
I can´t believe what are you doing (flying robot).
If subsist any possibility to distribution in my country, please send me more information about that.

    Thanks
