Blu Cantrell launches O2 download service

02 kicked off the launch of its new music download service last night at London’s latest music venue, The Hospital, with a performance from Blu Cantrell. And instead of waving lighters in the air, all the journalists were there waving their camera phones in the air trying to get pictures of the superb-sounding R&B diva!

O2 Music is Europe’s first mobile ‘over the air’ music download service and will feature an exclusive re-mix of her track Breathe as well as music content from other artists on BMG, Universal, Warner, MTV and Aim record labels. Tracks will cost around £1.50 and will be downloaded onto 02’s new Digital Music Player.

Look out for an exclusive O2 interview and full details on the 02 DMP tomorrow.

Here it is – the new digital music player from 02. It looks OK doesn’t it? There’s just one big problem. It’s an IR-based product so it will need to be placed right next to your mobile phone in order to download tracks which seems kind of crazy. Surely Bluetooth would have been a much better choice! Full review to follow tomorrow.
