New look Facebook launched for beta – apparently

Facebook Applications, Web 2.0

facebook_feed_tab.jpgLate last night Facebook launched the beta phase of the much anticipated re-design for the No.1 social networking site. The only trouble is, I can’t seem to get it.

Word is that if you go to www.new.facebook.com you can see the changes for yourself which centre around the profile page and how they’ve managed to stop it being an unmanageable pile of arse the minute you sign up for any applications. This is largely done by the use of tabs. Apparently.

I say apparently as it seems this beta is only available to a select few. How few, I do not know. I only know that I’m not one of them. Instead, I, and many of you, will have to be content with a press release telling us all about what people, whom Facebook considers more important, are able to appreciate.

The improvements include “Power Feeds” – to bring you more relevant and up to date stories to your wall, easier uploading of media without having to go to each different app and tabs on your profile page to better integrate all your third party bits and pieces. Apparently.

The new design will become available to all 80 million Facebook users “over the coming days” but just how many coming days they’re talking about is another question.
